ava and ama — xinleh

Ava and Ama are two ladies living in Balne, a fictional town inspired by the English town of Calne. I spent a formative one year living and working in the UK; that time still holds a particular tension for me: charming, also heavy with the weight of my first experience living alone and how I, as a Singaporean, relate to the larger context of British colonial history. Through these pieces I also hope to examine my love for the surreal, the ways in which outer reality warps to fit an inner logic. Ava and Ama live at the edge of distortion, which reflects my own experiences of the visible and unseen.
