Ava and Ama are two ladies living in Balne, a fictional town inspired by the English town of Calne. I spent a formative one year living and working in the UK, and that time still holds a particular tension for me: charming, but also heavy with the weight of my first experience living alone — and an awareness of the broader, inescapable history of British colonisation. Through these pieces I also hope to examine my love for the surreal, the ways in which outer reality warps to fit an inner logic. Ava and Ama live at the edge of distortion, which reflects my own experiences of the visible and unseen.
